What is Tortilla de Patatas?
Tortilla de patata (Spanish omelette) is one of the most iconic and beloved dishes in Spanish cuisine. It’s a delicious combination of eggs, potatoes, and onions (though the inclusion of onions is a hot topic among tortilla enthusiasts). You can find it in bars, restaurants, family gatherings, and celebrations. A pincho de tortilla (a small portion served as a tapa) paired with a cortado (a small coffee with milk) is one of the most popular mid-morning snacks in Spanish bars. Tortilla also takes centre stage as a main dish during family dinners or as a filling for a sandwich in children’s lunchboxes.
In this class, we’ll learn how to prepare it and explore a little bit of Spain’s rich culinary culture.

Did You Know?
In Spain, it’s very common to visit a bar mid-morning or around lunchtime to enjoy a pincho de tortilla with coffee or a refreshing drink. In addition to tortilla, it’s also typical to order croquetas, banderillas (skewered snacks), or the famous pincho huevogamba (a small skewer of shrimp and egg). Spanish cuisine is full of simple yet delicious dishes that are an essential part of everyday life and reflect our passion for sharing meals with others.
